Massa Marittima, for years rebaptized "jewel of the Maremma", is a town of very old origins. It knew its highest splendour in the Middle Ages and this is proved by the manifold works of art and museums that enrich this town. Today, it appears as a friendly and nice touristic town where you can still breath an old atmosphere. Many shows such as "Il Balestro del Girifalco", the "Toscana Fotofestival", the "Lirica in Piazza", etc. have a national, and sometimes international, considerable renown. Nearby Massa Marittima you can find very interesting places to visit and for whatever taste: - Archaeology (Roselle, Vetulonia, Populonia...) - Middle Ages (Siena, Volterra, San Gimignano, but also Scarlino, Tatti, Monterotondo M.mo...) - Sea, lake and thermae (Follonica, Castiglione della Pescaia, Accesa's Lake, Venturia...) - Nature (centre turtles and storks, Uccellina's Park, Burano's Lake...). The manifold landscapes and the mild climate characterizing Maremma's land make the Girifalco an excellent place to associate holiday and sport.
