Massa Marittima is a splendid town in the heart of the Metalliferous hills the origin of which are far and around the town are Stone Age and Etruscan sites.

There are many precious monuments that prove the richness and importance of Massa: The cathedral of San Cerbone, found in the beautiful Garibaldi Square, on a high church yard, which is located in front the Palazzo Comunale and the Palazzo del Podesta - the actual location of the archaeological museum. Near the square is the antique Fonte dell’Abbondanza.

In the high part of the city there is the Torre del Candeliere which is connected with a stone arch to Cassero Senese. In the square of the tower it is possible to see the Palazzetto delle Armi and, further on, the church of Sant’Agostino with its cloister. Then the ex-convent of San Pietro all’Orto holds the Museum of Sacred Arts, a collection of contemporary paintings and the museum of mechanical organs.
